DHS was right about Rodrigo y Gabriela

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Earlier, I gave Homeland Security a hard time about holding up last night’s Rodrigo y Gabriela concert due to visa hassles. Now that I’ve seen them, I understand the worry - those kids are positively dangerous with their guitars. Gabriela, in particular, just plain shreds. Absolutely unbelievable that one person can generate all that sound from an acoustic guitar, even after seeing it firsthand I’m still incredulous.

Good stage presence, too. First time I’ve heard a Mexican swear like the Irish, I guess 9 years in Dublin will do that to a girl.

Not to be missed should they pass through your town.

another Open Source XSL templating system

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I see that Seth’s blogging today about the benefits of using XSL as a template language. Another open-source XSL template system worth mention is the apache AxKit project, which we started using at the Walker Art Center in 2003 because our new designer Brent was already a fan of XSL templates.

Our first AxKit project was How Latitudes Become Forms. Since I moved, I understand that AxKit usage has been the standard for most in-house work.

One of the sessions at Boston’s recent Barcamp was on AxKit, so apparently there’s somebody in the area using it.

(this really should just be a comment on Seth’s blog, but it’s easier for me to write it here than to sign up for a blogger account, which is apparently now required)
